This painting sat in my studio for almost a month as I debated how to finish it. The shape in the foreground was important, but not strong enough on its own. When I let go of my regular process of removing the object that leaves its mark, I replaced the missing object, and everything came together.
Blue is one of my favorite colors to paint with, and I love the transparent layers of blue here. I recently had the opportunity to see Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper in Milan. I was inspired and motivated by his patience in building up layers of transparent color; This is my first painting in many years that incorporates watercolor.
